The Best Bags Ever ...
What makes a designer bag one of the best? There are a lot of elements that go into the mix ... you could say it's rather like a good package. There's the designer and his reputation along with good design and celebrity exposure. Excellent leather and exotic materials coupled with the finest craftsmanship are important. I personally like the extras from embossed hardware to chainlink straps, fringe, flaps, sometimes a pom-pom or two ... you know the bells and whistles without overdoing it. This past season the roomy, oversized satchel has been hot along with patent leather! As you can see, there are a lot of factors that make a bag one of the best. It's rather like magic!

IMHO, Louis Vuitton is the ONE bag that has achieved the most "exposure" in that you can go to any local mall and see many women AND girls of all ages carrying one of their bags, whether authentic or not so authentic. Again, I've had the pleasure to travel to Paris to the actual LV store and see their bags in person. I don't yet own one. LV probably has the most recognizable signature logo tan and brown bags around.

Marc Jacobs (born April 9, 1963 in New York City) is an American fashion designer. He attended the High School of Art and Design in New York City and graduated in 1981. Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy joined Tristan Russo in 1989. Robert as the President and Marc as the Vice-President of women's design to create the designer collection and in addition, he oversaw the design of the various women's licensees. In 1992, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, once again bestowed Jacobs with a great honor: The Women's Designer of the Year Award.

OK, talking about the Prada brand ... I have an Italian girlfriend in New Jersey who carries an authentic black leather Prada bag. She gets oodles of compliments on it and she loves it. J.P. Tod's may not be the first brand that comes to mind when searching for a top designer bag, but it does deserve mention for a great mid-price bag. In particular, the Charlotte bag is so stylish and practical.
Tod's Group is an Italian company which produces shoes and other leather goods, and presided over by businessman Diego Della Valle. It is famous for its driving shoes and D-bag. The family started the shoemaking business out of a basement in the late 1920s. The family expanded the workshop and turned it into a factory by Doro who also started manufacturing shoes for American department stores in the 1970s. The son of the owner, Diego, brought in innovative marketing strategies in the early 1980s, kept the handmade manufacturing process and went on to create brands of lifestyle named Tod's, Hogan and Fay.

I've been a fan of Italian-made designer handbags for quite a while. The Versace brand has that pop culture appeal with the fun "Snap Out of It" designer bag.
Gianni Versace S.p.A. is an Italian clothier founded by Gianni Versace in 1978. After Gianni Versace was killed by Andrew Cunanan on July 15, 1997, his sister Donatella Versace, formerly vice-president, stepped in as creative director of the designing of Versace and his older brother Santo Versace became CEO.
The first Versace boutique was opened in Milan's Via della Spiga in 1978, (though the Versace family are from Reggio Calabria) and its popularity was immediate. Today, Versace is one of the world's leading international fashion houses. Versace designs, markets and distributes luxury clothing, accessories, fragrances, makeup and home furnishings under the various brands of the Versace Group.
